What are a solution and its properties? A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. A solution has a solvent and a solute as its components. The component of the solution that dissolves the other component in it is called the solvent. Three solutions can be prepared using solute and a solvent found in the household. (a.) Coffee Solute: Coffee powder Solvent: Hot water (b.) Lemonade Solute: Lemon juice Solvent: water Some particles in the lemon juice do not dissolve in this mixture. (c.) Bleach Solute: Sodium hypochlorite Solvent: Water The sodium hypochlorite is dissolved in the water. Insights about these solutions. This helps me identify what solvent and solute are in difference. This also gives me some of the solutes that do not dissolve in the solvent because of the temperature that is being used in the mixture.
